General Notes for All Stations:

  1. All automatic count stations have been counted with FHWA 13-class vehicle classification and grouped into the cordon count categories. Under this classification scheme, based on vehicle length, the light truck category is overestimated compared to manual count stations because personal trucks cannot be separated out from commercial trucks. Buses are also overestimated compared to manual count stations because they cannot be totally separated out from some larger medium trucks or smaller heavy trucks.
  2. For automatic count stations, passenger vehicle counts are proportioned into automobile occupancy categories. Using a sample of manual count stations with relatively low traffic volumes, the proportions were derived from the average percentage share of automobiles for the A.M. and P.M. peak hours (equal to 0.81, 0.16, 0.02, and 0.01 for Auto1, Auto2, Auto3, and Auto4, respectively).
  3. For automatic count stations, all buses are considered to be school buses, and occupancies are based on the average occupancies recorded at a sample of manual counted stations with relatively low traffic volumes.
  4. Database has been modified to reflect traffic volume in 15-minute ending times.
  5. Cab drivers and truck drivers are NOT included in person counts.
  6. 2006 counts were conducted from 6:00 to 19:30 (i.e., 6:00 A.M. to 7:30 P.M.).

Specific Notes by Station Number:

StationComments
03.01 Henry Street, South of Highway 401
Although there is no regular municipal transit service on Henry Street, there is contracted bus service by the School Boards for Durham Region Transit to provide student transportation.
04.01 Stevenson Road South of Highway 401
Stevenson Road is under construction over Highway 401 while a new interchange is being built. There are lane restrictions and traffic delays. Traffic may be using alternate routes during this construction. Bloor Street in the vicinity of Stevenson Road was also subject to lane restrictions. This may have impacted traffic using Park Road (Station 0403) and the Park Road ramps (Station 0402).
13.01 Halls Road North of Taunton Road
This road had a considerable increase in traffic volume compared to previous counts. It is on the verge of development and the increase in traffic may be related to congestion on Taunton Road and Hwy 7.
15.09 Townline Road North of Taunton Road
Townline Road was closed from Adelaide Avenue to Pebblestone Road during the count. This may have diverted traffic to other north-south roads in the area such as Harmony Road (Station 1508) and Enfield Road (Station 1602).
35.02 Highway 401 East of Lakeridge Rd
The actual count is from the Henry Street overpass. An accident occurred on Highway 401 westbound at about 16:45 upstream of station 3502. This accident slowed traffic in the vicinity of the accident and likely reduced westbound traffic after 16:45 during this count.
39.03 Concession Road 3 (Brock) Regional Road 13
The Blackwater Bridge on Highway 7/12 near Regional Road 13 was under construction during the count and temporary traffic signals and detours were in effect.
53.02 Concession Road 3 (Brock) Regional Road 13
The Blackwater Bridge on Highway 7/12 near Regional Road 13 was under construction during the count and temporary traffic signals and detours were in effect.
